Testimonials

I’ve known Howard for over 30 years. Howard is certainly an accomplished player and teacher, but it’s his love of the game, and his ability to transfer that to his students that, to me, sets him apart. I highly recommend his teaching. – Adam Bazalgette/ Founder Scratch Golf Academy

Howard’s teaching technique is one of the most informative, and instantly useful systems, to anyone wanting to learn the game of golf, and any golfer wanting to improve their ball striking, and lowering their handicap. – Bill Nash/PGA Professional

I came back to golf very late and sought Howard’s help to alleviate the frustration. I really appreciate his passion for the game and his “keep it simple” approach. Howard put the fun in the game. – Barry Lucas

It has been a privilege to have had Howard as my golf guru over the past 10yrs. His principles of the golf swing are incredibly simple and straight forward, but I have yet to meet another golf instructor who teaches this brilliant method. He starts off every golfer with the same two drills, neither which involve hitting the ball more than ninety yards. While other instructors have their students slicing their drivers and harping on their poor swing plane, Howard just keeps having you hit 20 yard shots and asking you the same simple questions, like “Can you feel the club head?” It’s not too long before you can feel and answer all of his questions. And then the magical thing happens. You pull out the driver for the first time and you hit it right down the middle. – Steve Goldberg
Approaching retirement, I knew that golf was something that could fill my time and provide a great source of enjoyment and exercise. After a couple of trips to the range, it became obvious that the ease with which I picked up the game in my youth was not to be replicated and my journey back to respectability was going to be harder than I thought. I wish I could say that I did a great deal of research in finding Howard but I did not. I showed up at the course, inquired into lessons and was introduced to Howard. Howard assured me that he was the right instructor for me and that he would enjoy getting me back on the bicycle. Was he ever right! Howard has a very easy manner, kept it very simple and built my game back to a point that I once again can feel good about my on course performance. Gifted with reasonable athletic ability, I never struggled with the physical part of the game. In addition to tweaking my mechanics, Howard worked on my psychological approach to the game. This is probably where he has had more impact that I ever would have imagined. I now play a few times per week, love the game as much as I did when I was a teenager, and while the ball doesn’t go quite as far, my scores are within a few strokes of when I was a competitive golfer. Frankly, I could not have done it without Howard. He was an excellent instructor and a person with whom I enjoyed spending time. I could not be more adamant in my praise of his talents. – Larry Gibbons
As a beginning golfer 8 years ago, I started taking lessons with Howard. He has been my golf pro for all of these years. He teaches in a way that is easy to understand and his instructions are easy to remember. Once I started using and practicing Drill 1 & 2, my golf game improved dramatically. They are the basis for everything. If I have a bad shot when out on the course, I quickly understand what I’m doing wrong and know how to correct it. Howard always has a constructive tip to help me improve my golf game and he is the nicest guy ever! – Bonnie Sacarny
I retired from full time employment about 10 years ago. Over the years I had played golf sporadically and with four sons not too frequently. I decided I would like to take up golf more seriously but only if I could find a teacher who would help me understand and maybe even master the fundamentals of the game. I spoke to a friend who is in the golf business. He recommended that I contact the Mitchell Spearman organization which had established a teaching facility at the Doral Arrowwood golf course in Ryebrook, New York which is a few miles from where I live. I called and set up an appointment with their principal instructor, Howard Wyckoff.
My impression was that many instructors spent a lot of the lesson time describing the mechanics of the swing and a host of other technical details. Howard’s approach focused instead on several drills which encapsulate all elements of the swing. His idea is to simplify the process and to begin to build muscle memory. The net result is that one begins to improve dramatically in a relatively short period of time. Equally important is that you now know the reason you hit a bad shot and you now have the knowledge to correct the error. Howard’s teaching also enables his students to practice much more efficiently than before. My sense is that most golfers today have no idea what they are doing right or wrong and play on for years without even a basic understanding of the golf swing.
Over the last 10 years I have continued to improve and to enjoy golf much more than I did in the past. I cannot imagine that there are many teachers as gifted as Howard. I am sure I would not have taken up golf again without his guidance and support. He is a true professional at the top of the class. – Tom Conway
